An Environmentally Progressive Solution: Cross-Laminated Timber

Carbon12 is the tallest wood framed building in the United States made from cross-laminated timber, or CLT — the only renewable structural building material available today. CLT is a cutting-edge engineered wood product that is revolutionizing the construction industry.

CLT is made from kiln-dried timber that’s been glued and pressed in alternating directions resulting in large-scale, pre-fabricated, solid panels. These panels may be made from three, five, seven or nine layers. CLT panels are created to custom specifications, making for fast installation and no waste at the job site.

  • The building structure stores carbon as opposed to generating carbon, as does the production of concrete and steel.
  • Are incredibly light but provide as much strength as concrete and steel.
  • Offer better acoustics, insulation and fire resistance than other materials.
  • Meet or exceed demanding earthquake and seismic design requirements.

Seismically Prepared

Carbon12 is the most well prepared residential building in the country in regard to earthquakes and other natural disasters.

The Carbon12 team joined the inherent attributes of engineered timber structures, together with an innovative buckling restrained brace frame core, to create a building that is extremely well equipped for any seismic event.  With a thickened basement slab that rests on 41 steel pilings driven 45′ deep into the ground, Carbon12 is built to protect.

In addition to the robust structure, we’ve gone to great measure to prepare for the unknown:
